For Educators & School DistrictsThe ever-evolving education climate in Louisiana calls for creative, supportive collaborations between educators and parents. Parents are a child's first and most important teacher. In the same manner, educators impact children daily to promote their educational success. For this reason, it is of vital importance that parents and educators work together to create positive outcomes for Louisiana children. Louisiana PROMISE / PIRC expects to strengthen the partnership between parents and educators by offering a number of services statewide. Educator workshops provide educators with the resources required to effectively partner with parents. Refer to the Louisiana PROMISE / PIRC calendar for a complete listing of this month's workshops.
Educator Workshops
Parental Engagement in Out-of-School Time Settings (2 hours)
After-school and summer student achievement programs need parental involvement, too! This interactive workshop discusses the evidence-based approaches that educators and out-of-school time service providers have incorporated to increase parental involvement. Louisiana PROMISE / PIRC will also present strategies to reach minority parents.
Poverty Simulation for Educators (3 hours)
This three-hour simulation is presented by Louisiana PROMISE / PIRC to novice, urban and rural educators. The simulation, which was developed by the Missouri Community Action Agency, will create an awareness in educators about the realities faced by families living in poverty. The simulation consists of an orientation, a one-hour simulation, and a debriefing session about poverty. Participants will depart the simulation with an action plan for effectively partnering with families living in poverty. PLEASE NOTE: In order for the simulation to be conducted, 80 to 90 educators must participate.
No Child Left Behind: Parental Involvement (1 hour)
This training is centered on discussing the provisions of No Child Left Behind Act that concern parental involvement. Topics covered include parent engagement in school review, planning, and improvement and parent notification of Title I services. This training is geared towards informing novice teachers about Title I programs and the required parent participation within Title I schools/distrcits.
